Maintaining Your Ukulele

Kamaka Cases

Storing your ukulele in a hard case is an important part of regular maintenance, helping protect it from sudden changes in temperature and humidity as well as physical damage like bumps, drops, or pressure. Because ukuleles are made from solid wood, this consistent protection helps preserve their tone, structure, and longevity. We recommend both hardshell and Protec cases—hardshell cases provide maximum protection and a higher-grade build, while Protec cases are sturdy, lightweight, water-resistant, and ideal for travel, making them a popular choice among professional musicians.

Replacement and additional Kamaka branded hard cases are available at our factory and through our online store.

All new Kamaka ukuleles come with a custom Kamaka branded hard case that is designed for your specific ukulele model.

Replacement Strings

Strings significantly affect the sound and feel of your ukulele. Over the years, we have tested many different brands on our instruments and highly recommend using Kamaka strings for the best performance and tone.

Kamaka ukulele strings are available through our authorized dealers, at our factory, and the Kamaka online store.

Cleaning Your Kamaka

Kamaka ukuleles feature a lacquer finish and should be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth—never wet. For regular care, buff your instrument with a soft, dry, clean cloth, such as 100% cotton (baby diaper cloths work especially well).

You may also use a commercial instrument cleaner like Martin Guitar Polish or GHS Guitar Gloss. Avoid using any products that contain wax.

Cleaning cloths are available in our online store.

Controlling Humidity

Kamaka ukuleles are built with solid wood, which is sensitive to temperature and humidity. Gradual changes are generally safe, but rapid shifts should be avoided. Always store your ukulele in a good case when not in use and keep it away from direct heat sources such as heaters.

To help maintain proper humidity levels, humidifiers are available in our online store.
