Model # HF-36
The Tenor 6-String ukulele is a favorite among Kumu Hula (hula instructors) and musicians who play Hawaiian music because of its full, melodic sound that resonates beautiful high and low pitches brought out by strumming. The ukulele features doubled first and third strings tuned in octaves. Also known as the “Liliu,” the Tenor 6-String was designed by Sam Kamaka, Jr. in 1959 to commemorate Hawaii statehood and as a tribute to Hawaii’s last reigning monarch, Queen Liliuokalani. In 1978, the Liliu was presented to the United States White House as a regional gift from Hawaii.
Every Kamaka ukulele comes with a free Kamaka-branded ukulele case that was designed specifically for the exact ukulele model to match the instrument’s body size and length. The vinyl-wrapped, plywood hard case features a soft velvet lining that is padded around the back of the instrument with a protective, arched top cover that ensures the instrument fits snugly and securely when closed. The custom ukulele case also features a convenient compartment to hold tuners, polishing cloths and other accessories.
Option Available: Long Neck
Where to purchase Kamaka Ukuleles
As a proud owner of several Kamaka instruments ranging from concert to tenor ukuleles, I’ve had the privilege of enjoying the exceptional craftsmanship that goes into each piece, many of which were made by Casey Kamaka himself. The attention to detail is remarkable, and the traditional sound they produce is unique and resonates with me on a personal level.
